CALL-TO-ACTION: FLOX Volunteering OH-1 Solution to Farmers in Sweden Interested in Saving Deer Fawns Pre Harvest

We are looking for #landowners #farmers who would like to use our latest technology to screen their fields for deer fawns before harvest; FLOX offers to volunteer her OH-1 solution to this cause in the coming weeks!

In the agricultural landscape, there are unfortunately many young wild animals killed every year during spring harvest. Increasing demand for food and growing competition in the agricultural sector have stimulated the development of modern harvesting machines which are getting faster and more efficient. However this also means that the number of animals killed or injured during routine agricultural operations have increased dramatically over the past years.

During fodder crop harvest, agricultural machinery negatively affects a vast number of animal species. #RoeDeersare most threatened by the agricultural operations as juveniles in danger press against the ground trying to protect themselves from predators. Roe deer fawns are “hiders” and during the first 4–6 weeks mostly stay hidden alone in the vegetation and their mother visits them 3–7 times/day. For this reason, there is a high risk of young roe deer being killed by the cutter bars. Moreover, adults are also threatened as they often prefer grassland habitats, even in comparison to other agricultural localities. The season of fodder crops harvest in Central Europe also overlaps with the roe deer birth season whose peak falls between 20th May and 10th June.

There were various methods tested in the past aimed at decreasing roe deer mortality caused by agriculture machinery with varying levels of success. FLOX drones offer already today the possibility of searching for fawns with our thermal imaging vision system. Our Hugin drone is very reliable in finding fawns. If the basic requirements are met, the rate of successful fawn detection can beeven up to 100%.

So long story short: As FLOXis currently testing her OH-1 solution (Oden base station + Hugin drone) at varying customers anyway, we would love to volunteer our technology to help landowners or farmers avoid the above described tragedy and help save many baby deer in the process – if you are interested in having us help you in the coming time, just send us an email at [email protected]
