Boliden

Mining sites pose a serious risk to wildlife—despite fencing and traditional deterrents, animals like moose and reindeer frequently wander into active mining zones, risking injury and disrupting operations. Preventing these incidents is crucial for both safety and environmental responsibility, yet existing solutions have proven insufficient.

The Project

To tackle this challenge, Boliden deployed has deployed Flox Fixed, AI-powered stationary deterrent system, across four mining sites in Northern Sweden. Using real-time species detection and adaptive deterrence, these systems automatically guide animals away from hazardous areas—without harming them.

Key advantages using Flox Fixed

  • 24/7 Autonomous Wildlife Protection – The system operates day and night, requiring zero human intervention to monitor and deter wildlife.
  • Data-Driven Insights – FLOXfixed tracks wildlife movement patterns, helping Boliden make better-informed decisions on long-term wildlife management.
  • Safer & More Sustainable Operations – By preventing wildlife accidents, Boliden reduces both ecological impact and operational disruptions, reinforcing its commitment to environmental stewardship.
